Why do schools backload a lot if not all of your work for the end of the quarter? Absolutely nothing gets done the first week because teachers just waste time talking about a syllabus they almost never reference again. Since nothing gets done the first week nothing can be assigned the second week because you haven't learned anything yet. This process goes on until about the 7th week when all professors say to themselves "Shit, I haven't graded anything yet, I better just give out a bajillion papers for my students to do. That should do the job."
Note: This probably only applies to breadth courses that aren't math or science based and to CHASS students, but either way it still sucks.
